A Boeing 737-900ER of Oman Air, registration A4O-BY, was carrying out flight WY655 from Muscat International Airport (MCT), in Oman’s capital city, to Bahrain International Airport (BAH), in Bahrain.

Ten minutes after taking off, the flight crew squawked 7700 on their transponder, declaring a general emergency. The aircraft diverted and landed back in Muscat, 32 minutes after takeoff.

The Boeing aircraft, leased from Oman Brunei Aviation Leasing, was delivered to Oman Air in March 2015.
