Turkish Airlines canceled its flights from Istanbul to Sudan’s capital city, Khartoum, on June 4 due to political unrest.

EgyptAir and Emirates have previously canceled their flights to Sudan due to the ongoing crisis. Turkish Airlines has followed these airlines in halting flights to Khartoum. The carrier already canceled its flights from Istanbul to Khartoum on June 4, 2019, at 2025 (1725 GMT) and on June 5, 2019, at 0030 (2130 GMT). Because of security concerns, airlines have taken the decision to cancel flights to the city until the situation calms down. There is no announcement from the airlines for the exact date of the reopening of these routes for now.

Sudan death toll rises to a hundred

Sudan has remained in turmoil with demonstrators blocking streets in several districts. On April 11, 2019, the military establishment announced the “removal” of President Omar al-Bashir after months of protests against his 30-year rule. This political crisis resulted in the death of demonstrators by gunfire and hundreds more injured. According to Reuters, the death toll rose to 108.
