Four windows of Turkish Airlines brand new Dreamliner have been damaged by heat during a photoshoot, a source familiar with the matter confirmed to AeroTime.
“There can be many reasons for this kind of incident. In this case, it seems that spotlights must have been pointed [directly] at windows, which caused them damage,” Bora Demirci, an aircraft technician, shared his observation with AeroTime.
During promotional shootings of Turkish Airlines’ brand new Boeing 787-9, windows of the airplane melted due to the temperature of spotlights.
Photos of the melted windows have appeared on the Turkish media with explanations pointing at too much excitement ahead of the Dreamliner’s first flights.
Apparently, as cabin windows were exposed to long lasting photoshoots, the heat from spotlights caused plastic to deform.

Turkish Airlines took delivery of its first Boeing 787-9 on June 26, 2019. The first flight of the newest airliner is scheduled on July 8, 2019. At the moment it is not clear whether the photo shoot incident will affect the inaugural flight.
Turkish Airlines intends to operate the Dreamliner on new non-stop international routes such as Bali, Bogota-Panama, Washington and Atlanta.
This article was initially published on July 1, 2019, and had previously stated that one window was affected. Later on, sources familiar with the matter told AeroTime that, in fact, heat damaged four windows of the Dreamliner.
