President Trump declares that Qatar has agreed to buy a ‘larger number’ of commercial planes from Boeing during the meeting with the Emir of Qatar.
The Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamin bin Hamad Al Thani met with the U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House before a bilateral meeting on July 9, 2019.
President Trump claimed the deal includes “tremendous amounts” of military equipment, as well as jets, and “very large numbers” of commercial planes from Boeing.
“We’re going to be signing a document today — a very large transaction,” said Trump before the bilateral meeting. “It’s a transaction that will be purchasing a lot of Boeing jets and a lot of money spent in our country, and that means a lot of jobs”.
Neither the model, nor the precise amount of Boeing aircraft has been revealed so far. AeroTime has reached out to Boeing for clarification.
Qatar Airways, a state owned flag carrier of Qatar, placed an order for five 777F freighters, worth about $1.7 billion at list prices, during the Paris Air Show on June 19, 2019. It also has five Boeing 737 MAX planes, all of which are currently grounded, and is awaiting 777X deliveries to begin. The Qatari airline has 60 planes of the type on order.
