Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizzair has announced that the airline will open 2 new bases with addition of numerous new routes in July, 2020.

Wizzair has been seen as one of the strongest and most optimistic carriers during the current pandemic that has had a negative impact on passenger figures and demand for travel.

The carrier outlined plans to base five A321 aircraft at Milan Malpensa from July, with 20 new routes to be added to eight already served. The expanded route network for Milan Malpensa will connect 11 countries with several important destinations like: Tel Aviv, Lisbon, Porto, and London, followed by more leisure focused destinations to Greece, Morocco, Spain, Portugal and others.

Wizz has also said that it will station two Airbus A320 aircraft to serve 10 new routes from Larnaca base. New routes from Cypriot city of Larnaca include 3 destinations in Germany, 2 in Denmark, 2 in Greece, one in Romania, Finland and Poland.

Jozsef Varadi, chief executive of Wizzair told: “We see the potential and the demand for low-cost travel in Cyprus, which is one of the most popular and rapidly developing tourist destinations.”

The announcement comes as a pleasant surprise to all travelers looking forward to travelling after the travel bans imposed by governments to cope with COVID-19 pandemic. With addition of two new locations Wizzair now boasts a strong network of 29 bases located around Europe.

The carrier has previously told to still being on track with plans of launching routes from Bucharest and Budapest to Abu Dhabi starting in June.
