A United States Air Force F-16CM Fighting Falcon crashed at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, during a routine training mission. The pilot was killed in the accident.
The aircraft, whose registration number has not been communicated yet, was assigned to the 20th Fighter Wing, operating from Shaw Air Force Base.
The incident took place during a routine training mission with one pilot on board on the evening of June 30, 2020. The fighter jet crashed in the base perimeter and caught fire.
The emergency services from the base intervened on the crash site. On the morning of July 1, 2020, Lawrence Sullivan, 20th Fighter Wing commander, announced that the pilot had died in the crash.
Apart from the loss of the aircraft and pilot, no other damage or injury was reported.
