Pierre Vanders, Group Director Cargo-Operations

The majority of ad-hoc charters are still dominated by transporting PPE from the Far East to various countries mainly in Europe and North America to a lesser degree than when COVID transport was at its peak last April. Requirements are steady but the aircraft availability is plentiful and rates have dropped but are stable. Over the next few months, however, margins for carriers could be squeezed as there seems to be sufficient capacity on the market to sustain the ongoing PPE flights as we’ve started noticing fuel price increase. The humanitarian sector (non-PPE) is on the rise for various missions in Yemen and Africa in general in response to Covdi19 but also Cholera spread in parts of central Africa, transporting hospital equipment as well as cold chain Pharmaceuticals.
