Lufthansa Group signs EASA Aviation Industry Charter for COVID-19

The Lufthansa Group airlines signed the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Charter for COVID-19, committing to implement health safety standards for the protection of staff and passengers among the group’s international network and between its hubs in Europe.

Lufthansa Group joins 70 airline and airport operators who have committed to the Charter, EASA said. Signatories have agreed to abide by the EASA/ECDC COVID-19 Aviation Health Safety Protocol and to report back to the European regulator on their practical experiences of implementing these guidelines, which were developed in cooperation with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

“We are extremely pleased to have Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA) and the entire Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA) group as signatories to our charter,” said EASA Executive Director Patrick Ky. “It is important that regulators and industry cooperate closely during these times to apply effective and proportionate measures that will ensure that aviation remains as safe and efficient as ever.”

“We have introduced extensive hygiene measures along the entire travel chain to optimally protect our customers and our employees,” Carsten Spohr, Chairman of the Executive Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG said. “Only with more uniformity and stability in terms of regulation will more customers book flights again. “
