On September 16, 2020, Air Zimbabwe issued a statement announcing the resumption of some of its domestic and regional flights. The flight resumption comes following the Zimbabwean government’s decision to ease COVID-19 restrictions.

Air Zimbabwe’s domestic operations will commence on September 23, 2020, with three weekly flights between Harare (HRE), Victoria Falls (VFA) and Bulawayo (BUQ). The two weekly regional flights are set to start on October 3, 2020, between Harare (HRE) and Dar es Salaam (DAR), Tanzania.

The statement also said that the first international flights to Johannesburg (FAOR) will be announced as soon as South Africa opens its airspace and airports.

The Zimbabwean government is lifting bans on domestic and international air travel starting from September 10, 2020, and October 1, 2020, respectively.

Air Zimbabwe has previously suspended all flights in late March 2020, but continued the repatriation of Zimbabwean citizens stranded abroad.

As of September 17, 2020, the airline actively operates one Boeing 767 aircraft (registered as Z-WPF) while another 767 remains grounded along with two 737s, one 777 and two Airbus A320s. However, due to the resumption of air travel, we are likely to see at least half of Air Zimbabwe’s fleet back in the air by October 3, 2020.
