A Boeing 737-800, flying on behalf of Turkish Airlines, suffered sudden engine shutdown with a loud noise and streaks of flames during a bird strike incident in Kars Harakani airport (KSI), Turkey.

The incident occurred on September 27, 2020, when AnadoluJet, the subsidiary carrier of Turkish Airlines, aircraft, registered as TC-JZO, was en route to Ankara Esenboga Airport (ESB).

The initial reports showed that during climb out of the runway, the pilots hit a bird and  damaged the left-hand engine of the jet. When the crew reached a climbing level of 12,000 feet, the left engine was shut down due to failure and the pilot made a decision to return to KSI.

The aircraft landed safely a bit more than 30 minutes after departure. The scheduled domestic flight to Ankara was canceled. No injuries reported.

The engine inspection showed that the turbofan blades were damaged after hitting an unspecified object, which led to severe engine damage.
