British Airways to launch new route forgotten for 30 years
British Airways launches a new route from London to Bermuda. This appears to be the first time the British air carrier has flown the route in three decades since 1989.
The airline announced that it has scheduled regular daily flights from London Heathrow airport (LHR) to Bermuda (BDA). The flights will be operated by Boeing 777-200, the airline announced in the press release on September 30, 2020.
The air carrier declares it has a total of 45 Boeing 777-200 on its fleet. However, according to Planespotters.com data, almost a half of the Triple Seven’s fleet is currently parked.
According to the statement, the last time British Airways has flown this transatlantic route was way back in 1989. Despite it having been more than three decades since the last flight to Bermuda, Neville Tyrrell, the Minister of Transport of Bermuda, expressed great joy about the launch.
“We are delighted to continue our partnership with British Airways, an airline connecting Bermuda to London for more than 85 years. The island’s leading industry groups see clear benefits for international business and tourism as a result of this decision, which should prove pivotal in the island’s pandemic recovery,” said Tyrrell.
Daily flights from the biggest London airport to Bermuda are scheduled to start on March 28, 2021 with a price starting from £510.
