Thai Airways former chairman sentenced to two years of jail for evading paying excess baggage fees in 2009.

On November 25, 2020, Thailand’s Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases convicted the former chairman of Thai Airways Wallop Bhukkanasut for two years in jail regarding unpaid 300 kg excess weight in 2009, according to the Bangkok Post.

In November 2009, Bhukkanasut allegedly abused his authority in ordering airline staff to change the stated weight on board to Bangkok-bound flight from Tokyo Narita.

Bhukkanasut resigned from executive chairman’s position of the country’s national flag carrier in early 2010. At that time,  the facts of the investigation had already been established, Thai media reported.

The former Thai Airways chairman was on bail for over a decade, before being found guilty by the Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases.
