A Scottish brewing company launched the petition encouraging to rename Glasgow Prestwick Airport, which is often used by Donald Trump, the 45th President of US, after the name of Joe Biden, the president-elect.
While multiple media reports indicated that Donald Trump might fly to Scotland after leaving his office in the US, BrewDog, a Scottish brewing company, attracted the attention of international media with its controversial petition. The Scottish brewers initiated the petition to rename Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK) – the airport where Trump often flies to when visiting Scotland – after the name of Joe Biden, the president-elect of the US. Teasing the Trump supporters, BrewDog suggested changing the name of PIK airport into “Joe Biden International”.
Meanwhile, the petition has already gained almost 6,000 signatures towards the goal of 7,500 signatures, as seen on Change.org.
The Glasgow Prestwick (PIK) is an international airport in Scotland that serves the West part of the country. The airport is rated as the fifth-busiest Scottish airport in terms of passenger traffic after Edinburgh (EDI), Glasgow (GLA), Aberdeen (ABZ), and Inverness International Airport (INV).
In addition, having the longest commercial runway and parallel taxiway in North of Manchester and occupying an 880-acre area, Prestwick is the largest airport in Scotland in terms of size. The two major 2,986 meter-long and 1,905 meter-long runways make the airport able to accommodate all types of aircraft. Besides, the current terminal of PIK airport is capable of serving 2.5 million passengers.
