Airbus updates production rates, slows down pace on A320
As the aviation market is being shaped by the pandemic, Airbus announced the updated production rates for its aircraft.
On January 21, 2021, the Airbus confirmed the updated production rates. The new A320 production rate will gradually increase from the current rate of 40 per month to 43 in the third quarter of 2021 and 45 in the fourth quarter of 2021. Overall production rate will remain lower than previously expected as Airbus has previously planned to reach the rate of 47 per month by July 2021.
Airbus has planned to increase the rate of production for the widebody A350, however it will be postponed for the later stage. The production rate of A350 and A330 aircraft is expected to remain at current levels – around five A350 and two A330 per month.
However, the narrow body aircraft will see a ray of hope. The monthly production rate of A220 aircraft will increase as planned – from four to five per month at the end of the first quarter of 2021.
“Airbus continues to monitor the market closely. With these revised rates, Airbus preserves its ability to meet customer demand while protecting its ability to further adapt as the global market evolves,” read the manufacturer’s press release.
Airbus forecasts the commercial aircraft market to remain stagnant until 2023-2025.
