Aerion, NASA partners to research "high Mach" passenger aircraft
Aerion Supersonic and NASA are partnering for a joint five-year study on ultra-high-speed commercial flight.
“This is a continuation of a long-standing relationship between Aerion Supersonic and NASA,” said Aerion’s Chairman, President & CEO, Tom Vice. “This partnership will enable the development of technologies that will help realize ultra-high-speed point-to-point global mobility solutions in the Mach 3-5 range.”
The agreement will help with the development of the next generation of passenger jet envisioned by Aerion, called the AS3. This is the third collaboration signed between Aerion and NASA.
Aerion Supersonic is currently developing a 12-seat supersonic business jet, the AS2, capable of reaching a top speed of Mach 1.4 (about 1,700 kilometers per hour). The company recently started the development of Aerion Park, a headquarters of nearly 45 hectares near the Orlando-Melbourne Airport (MLB), in Florida. It expects to begin the production of the AS2 on site in 2023.
