Boeing listed a 310-acre property near Seattle, Washington, the United States for sale.
The property is a part of the company’s Frederickson site, located just a little south of Seattle. While the property for sale is undeveloped, the location also hosts two manufacturing facilities, namely Skin and Spar, and the Composite Manufacturing Center. The former is responsible for various aluminum components destined for Boeing‘s Commercial Airplanes division, while the latter manufactures composite parts for the 777 and 787 aircraft families.
The property was listed in early March 2021, according to the News Tribune. The listing indicates that while the land has currently no buildings, it is zoned as an Employment Center.
While Seattle area was the home of Boeing’s manufacturing facilities since the company’s inception, including the manufacturing of its whole aircraft lineup except for the 717. However, the planemaker opened an assembly line of the 787 Dreamliner in North Charleston, South Carolina, in November 2011. In October 2020, Boeing announced that it would consolidate the production of the 787 in South Carolina, moving the assembly of the wide-body aircraft from Everett, Washington. Initially, the move was supposed to be completed by mid-2021. As the situation in the commercial aircraft market deteriorated, especially for wide-body aircraft due to the pandemic, the move was accelerated in December 2020, as reported by the Seattle Times, citing an internal Boeing memo.
Still, the Boeing 787 program suffered several production hiccups throughout the year, beginning with issues with aft fuselage sections in 2020. As a result, the company did not deliver a single aircraft of the type since October 2020. Now, Boeing has resumed deliveries of the 787, as the manufacturer delivered a 787-9 to United Airlines on March 26, 2021.
