Aviator, a Nordic one-stop-shop for aviation ground handling services, announces the introduction of Vestergaard electrical chassis, able to carry a number of Ground support equipment (GSE) applications, such as water and lavatory carts, increasing the base’s operational capability and reducing Aviator’s environmental footprint.

Vestergaard Company’s fully electric 12-ton chassis is equipped with a 40 kWh lithium-ion battery with enough capacity to drive up to approximately 50 km and operate for around 12 hours. The machine is composed of tried and tested high-quality industrial, electronic components. Aviator has chosen the version with a fully enclosed cabin with heat and air-conditioning. The unit can also be delivered without doors in an open configuration.

“We are delighted to take part in testing and using the new sustainable GSE from our partners of over 20 years’ Vestergaard. Our team has been trying out the unit since December 2020, and on April 1st, 2021 it introduced to operations. So far, we are very happy with the performance and usability of the unit,” shared Aviator’s Ramp Manager Timo Karosvuo.

The introduction of this new GSE marks Aviator’s next step towards more sustainable and eco-friendly operations, under the company’s sustainability plan. Vestergaard’s electrical chassis allows Aviator to operate equipment in closed gate areas with zero-emission, no small particle pollution and practically eliminated equipment noise.

“We are delighted to share Aviator’s sustainability journey and believe, that the importance of eco-friendly operations will continue to grow, so such additions to our GSE, like the Vestergaard electrical chassis, are incredibly valuable and useful. Following our sustainability plan allows Aviator to strengthen its position as the leading player in the Nordics ground handling market,” commented Magnus Söderberg, Head of Sustainability and Business Improvement at Aviator.

“We are pleased that Aviator chose to use Vestergaard’s electrical chassis for their day-to-day operations. Our electric ground support equipment allows companies not only to work more sustainably but also more economically. We are glad to have Aviator as our clients and hope that our partnership will continue in the future,” said Stefan Vestergaard, CEO at Vestergaard Company.

The fully electrical chassis is a convenient piece of equipment that can entirely replace normal diesel versions, reducing ground handling companies’ fuel emissions.
