Emirates hopes for a ‘grown up’ conversation with Boeing about 777X timeline

On April 21, 2021, Emirates president Sir Tim Clark said that the UAE-based airline hoped to see more “visibility” from Boeing with regards to the Boeing 777X aircraft delivery timeline.

“I would like more visibility when exactly we are going to receive these airplanes and what exactly they are going to be able to do with regards to their performance,” Clark said speaking at the World Aviation Festival virtual event .

Emirates was initially supposed to start taking first Boeing 777X aircraft deliveries in 2020. However, that timeline was initially pushed back to 2022 and later to 2023. However, now  Clark revealed that it was unlikely the Emirates was “going to get it before 2023 or probably 2024”.

“I think we will be having grown up conversations with the Boeing company sometime in the next few months,” Clark added.

While talking about the possibility of converting more of Emirates current Boeing 777X order book into Boeing 787s or Boeing 777-9s, Clark said it was undecided whether they are going to swap for more Boeing 787s or more Boeing 777-9s.
