Following the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) request for more data on Boeing’s proposed solution to address previously disclosed Boeing 787 Dreamliner manufacture issues, the Chicago-based aircraft giant reportedly halted deliveries of Boeing 787 Dreamliner once again.
According to insider sources close to the matter, quoted by the Wall Street Journal on May 28, 2021, Boeing would face new Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft delivery delays following the FAA inquiry for more data regarding the proposed solution to the latest aircraft quality lapses. American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) had to receive a new Dreamliner this week. However, that delivery is not expected until next week, people close to the matter said.
Earlier in March 2021, Boeing delivered the first of its Boeing 787 Dreamliners to United Airlines after a five months hiatus.
“Today, we resumed 787 deliveries following several months of rigorous engineering analysis, inspection, and as-needed rework to ensure that every airplane we deliver meets all regulatory requirements,” said Lane Ballard, general manager of the Dreamliner program, on March 26, 2021.
A production issue with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner first was found in late August 2020, as it appeared that the aft fuselage section of some 787s would not be able to withstand maximum stress, making it more prone to a structural failure whilst in the air. Another problem was found in September 2020, related to the tail fin of the aircraft. Parts of the horizontal stabilizer were clamped together with greater force than they were designed to.
On May 18, 2021, the members of the United States House of Representatives announced seeking more data from Boeing and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Boeing 737 MAX and Boeing 787 Dreamliner manufacture issues.
