New Zealand residents who have been unable to return home from Australia due to the COVID-19 pandemic can now finally do so starting September 2021.
Known as ‘red flights’, these flights will depart from several cities in Australia and passengers will have to travel adhering to MIQ (Managed Isolation and Quarantine) rules.
Travelers are required to have a negative pre-departure test and they will have to book their 14-day stay-in managed isolation. Normal rules regarding payment of MIQ stay will apply.
MIQ flights and vouchers will be available for travel on a limited number of dates in September 2021.
“We are aware that a number of New Zealanders in Australia have been unable to return since the suspension of quarantine-free travel with Australia in July. So I am very pleased that flights from Australia will resume to bring more people home,” said Joint Head of MIQ Brigadier Rose King.
She further advises, “People will need to secure a voucher for MIQ in the same way everyone else returning to New Zealand does and there is high demand right now.
Those with an urgent need to travel are encouraged to check the MIQ website to see if they can meet the requirements for emergency allocation.
