More than 100 people were killed, including 13 U.S. troops, when two explosions hit Kabul Airport (KBL) on Thursday, August 26, 2021

The bomb attacks, one of them believed to be a suicide attack, ripped through as crowds tried to enter the American-controlled facility, throwing turmoil into the final efforts of evacuation.

The attack came days before U.S. President Joe Biden’s deadline of August 31, 2021, to withdraw U.S. forces from Afghanistan. U.S officials confirmed that among the American troops killed, 11 of them were Marines and at least one was a Navy medic.

It has been confirmed that the terror group ISIS (Islamic State) has claimed responsibility for the attacks. It is known that ISIS is a long-time adversary of the Taliban, whose members are guarding the perimeter around Kabul Airport (KBL).

This attack marked the deadliest day for the U.S. Military in Afghanistan since 2011.
