F-16 fighter jet dips nose in a ditch as it overruns runway in Taiwan

A Taiwan Air force fighter jet overran a runway at Pingtung Air Base, plowing nose-first into a ditch on the side of the runway. 

The incident occurred at 06:32 AM local time on August 31, 2021, as the F-16 attempted an emergency landing for rehearsals for an upcoming Han Kang military exercises, the Air Force Command Headquarters told the press. 

The military exercises, which will be held on September 13-17, 2021, will include emergency take-off and landing drills by fighter planes on public highways. 

The Air Force reported that the pilot was not injured and that the jet sustained only very minor damages.
