British holiday company Jet2.com has ordered 36 Airbus A321neo aircraft, and agreed options for a further 24 of the aircraft to renew its fleet.

The announcement makes Jet2.com a new customer for Airbus. Its fleet currently comprises Boeing 737s and 757s, although it does lease one A321 from Avolon.

Jet2 said the order reflects its “ambitious” fleet expansion and renewal plans. Its A321neos will seat 232 passengers.

“Jet2.com will be proud to operate the Airbus A321neo in the years ahead,” Jet2.com executive chairman Philip Meeson said in a statement on August 31, 2021.

“This aircraft  is, in our opinion,  the most efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft in its class today – it will give our holiday customers a wonderfully comfortable and enjoyable experience as they travel with us for their well deserved Jet2holiday.”

Airbus highlighted that Jet2 was predominantly a Boeing airline in its statement, noting the order win “with great satisfaction”

“Traditionally having been operating non fly-by-wire aircraft, we note with great satisfaction that after having tested a couple of leased A321s and run a comprehensive evaluation, Jet2.com is forward looking and investing in modern and future proof Airbus fly-by-wire technology,” Airbus Chief Commercial Officer Christian Scherer said.

Jet2.com intends to select the engines for the aircraft at a later date. The A321neo can be powered by either CFM International’s LEAP-1A or Pratt & Whitney’s PurePower PW1100G-JM geared turbofan.
