New Irish regional carrier Emerald Airlines received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Irish Aviation Authority.
“Being granted the first AOC in Ireland since the pandemic is not only a major milestone in our journey as an airline but a significant one for the Irish Aviation industry as it begins its recovery following the worst crisis in its history,” Conor McCarthy, Founder and CEO of Emerald Airlines said.
In August 2021, Aer Lingus announced reaching an agreement with Emerald to take over the service previously operated by the late Stobart Air, which was liquidated on June 11, 2021, after its English parent company Esken ended financial support.
“While the contract is not due to commence until 1 January 2023, Aer Lingus continues to work closely with Emerald Airlines to evaluate options with respect to an earlier contract start date,” an Emerald spokesperson told AeroTime at the time.
Later the same month, the airline struck a deal with the Dublin-based lessor Chorus Aviation Capital for the delivery of six ATR 72-600 aircraft. The airline received its first aircraft on August 31, 2021. The remaining five aircraft are expected for delivery over the next year.
