European plane manufacturer Airbus reported its latest results of aircraft orders and deliveries in August 2021.
Airbus received three cancelations and delivered 40 planes to 25 customers in August ‒ fewer jets than in July when the manufacturer handed over 47 aircraft. In 2021 to date, Airbus delivered a total of 384 jets to 70 customers.
Despite a light slump in deliveries, Airbus posted a record number of orders received in 2021. The company received 102 jet orders in August, compared to only two in the previous month.
A major order of 36 Airbus A321neo aircraft was placed by British airline JET2.PLC. The Leeds-based carrier became a new Airbus customer and a new operator of new A320neo Family jets.
A slightly smaller amount of jets, 30 Airbus A321neos were ordered by Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines. The newly-ordered planes came as an addition to the existing Delta order consisting of 125 aircraft of the type. The move brought the outstanding orders from the airline to a total of 155 A321neos. The A321neo, the first one of which Delta expects to receive in early 2022, will be powered by Pratt & Whitney PW1100G turbofan engines, with a three-class configuration seating 194 passengers, Airbus said in a statement dated August 24, 2021.
Santiago-based LATAM Airlines Group was the third largest Airbus customer in August, which ordered 21 A321neos and 7 A320 jets..
Meanwhie, European air carrier Malta MedAir ordered a single A320neo jet.
