Smartwings to add six routes to leisure air travel network
The low-cost leisure Czech airline Smartwings is set to expand its international network by adding six routes connecting the Canary Islands and European countries. Having signed two new contracts with German travel agencies, the carrier will start flying leisure travel destinations between mid-October and end-April 2022.
Smartwings, which mainly operates Boeing 737 Family aircraft and has a total of 44 planes in the fleet, announced that it will deploy three jets in its base at Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Airport (LPA), as it has signed two new agreements with German travel agencies.
Starting on October 1, 2021, the airline will provide weekly connectivity services between the Canary Islands and Helsinki (HEL), Belgrade (BEG), Tallinn (TLL), Sofia (SOF), Bodo (BOO), and Tromso (TOS). Then, from October 20, 2021, Smartwings will also resume direct daily flights from Prague (PRG) to Dubai (DXB) and will launch a new service between Bratislava (BTS) and DXB airport on October 24, 2021.
“We will have a base for three airplanes on the Canary Islands,“ the chief executive officer Roman Vik said in the airline‘s statement outlining that it will continue flying named routes until April 2022.
The carrier also noted that during the upcoming winter season it will operate flights from Prague (PRG) to the other Canary Islands, namely Tenerife (TFS), Lanzarote (ACE), and Fuerteventura (FUE), as well as to Mallorca (PMI), Malaga (AGP), Tel Aviv (TLV), Madeira (FNC), Hurghada (HRG), Marsa Alam (RMF), Cape Verde (SID), and Salalah (SLL). The winter schedule will also include flights between Prague (PRG) and London (LCY) as well as Moscow (SVO), and St. Petersburg (LED).
The current Smartwings network consists of 60 destinations.
