AirAsia Malaysia will only take fully vaccinated travelers on board its flights, the carrier announced on October 6, 2021, the latest airline to impose such a restriction.
The new measures are “in preparation for the full resumption of its domestic and subsequently international flight services,” AirAsia Malaysia stated.
Those under the age of 18 who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated must be accompanied by fully-vaccinated parents or relatives, the airline said.
“The decision to accept only fully vaccinated guests for boarding is made in the best safety interest of our guests and employees,” said AirAsia Malaysia CEO Riad Asmat.
AirAsia Malaysia said all its flights are operated by fully-vaccinated crew and also noted that its ground operations and baggage handling staff are fully jabbed.
AirAsia Malaysia also said that to reduce physical interaction and queuing at the airport, all passengers will have to check-in via the AirAsia Super App.
While many airlines have said staff members need to be vaccinated against COVID-19, it seems that airlines are increasingly requiring the same of passengers. Qantas has said it plans to carry only vaccinated passengers on its international flights and Air New Zealand announced similar requirements on October 3, 2021.
