Australian low-cost airline Bonza plans 2022 launch

Australia is about to launch a new low-cost airline. Bonza, which is an Australian slang word meaning ‘good’ or ‘excellent’, aims to start services in early 2022 and intends to become the country’s only independent low-fare airline.

While the carrier is yet to announce its upcoming routes, it is going to operate a fleet of Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

Tim Jordan, founder and CEO of the new company, has previously worked at Virgin Blue, Cebu Pacific, United Airlines and FlyArystan.

In a recent press release, Jordan states: “Bonza will deliver enormous benefits to all Australians, but particularly to regional communities by providing new routes and greater travel opportunities.”

The company has revealed that it has already secured an investment from US investment firm 777 Partners.

According to Bonza’s website, its network is still subject to regulatory approval. The airline is also not currently listed on the Australian Government Civil Aviation Safety Authority website, which means that it is yet to receive an Air Operator’s Certificate
