US travel restrictions to be lifted on November 8, in time for Thanksgiving

The United States will open its borders to fully vaccinated foreign travelers from November 8, 2021, the White House announced on October 15, 2021.

The White House administration had said on September 20, 2021 that restrictions on entering the country would be eased from November. Even without a specific date being announced, airlines had seen a surge in bookings.

Confirmation of an exact date is therefore likely to boost demand for transatlantic travel further.

“The US’ new travel policy that requires vaccination for foreign national travelers to the United States will begin on November 8,” White House press secretary Kevin Munoz wrote on Twitter. “This announcement and date applies to both international air travel and land travel.“

Travel to the United States has been restricted for non US citizens or residents for around 18 months. The lifting of the restrictions comes in time for the busy holiday period, with Thanksgiving day on November 25, 2021.
