Canada’s second largest carrier WestJet is set to launch operations to London Heathrow (LHR), the United Kingdom. The Calgary-based airline plans to commence service beginning early spring 2022.

The move to add non-stop service to London Heathrow comes as WestJet sees gradual recovery in business and leisure travel between both destinations.

“We continue to strengthen our network, offering more options for business and leisure travelers and these investments will expedite our industry’s recovery while ensuring Western Canada builds back from the pandemic more connected than ever before,” said John Weatherill, WestJet Chief Commercial Officer.

According to the carrier, the newest route will be operated using WestJet’s Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

Currently, WestJet has a total of 104 aircraft in its fleet, according to Planespotters.net. The airline’s fleet comprises 98 Boeing 737s and six Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

“As the airline with the most non-stop European destinations from YYC, we are looking forward to guests benefitting from more options and increased connectivity for travel between Canada and the UK,” Weatherill added.
