Start-up airline Norse Atlantic Airways has obtained an Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC), allowing the newcomer to commence passenger operations connecting Oslo, Norway, and the United States.
The low-cost airline, which plans to begin transatlantic operations as soon as spring 2022, received an AOC from the Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority on December 29, 2021.
“We would like to thank Norway’s Civil Aviation Authority for a constructive and professional process. We are now one important step closer to launching our attractive and affordable flights between Europe and the U.S. in spring next year,” said Bjorn Tore Larsen, chief executive officer of Norse Atlantic.
Earlier in December 2021, the Norwegian carrier took delivery of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, which the company leased from BOC Aviation. Norse Atlantic plans to grow its fleet to 12 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, and three Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, all of which will serve non-stop routes. The airline also aims to lease six of the 787-9 Dreamliners from BOC. The remaining nine jets will come from AerCap.
Larsen also said that jet deliveries will continue until April 2022. All planes will be parked at the Norse Atlantic base at Oslo Airport (OSL) in Norway until the launch of services.
“The delivery of our first Dreamliner marks an important milestone for us at Team Norse as it brings us one step closer to the launch of attractive and affordable transatlantic flights,” Larsen said on December 20, 2021.
