AirAsia Philippines is optimistic about 2022, eyes route expansion
The low-cost subsidiary of AirAsia Group, AirAsia Philippines, eyes network expansion and sees a “better normal in 2022”. The positive forecast comes as the airline sees accelerated domestic travel demand.
The budget airline outlined its three major priorities of the year, namely cash availability and cash management to support recovery strategies enroute to profitability, sustainable cost management, and expansion of its network.
The airline eyes network expansion opportunities to destinations in the Middle East, the United States, and Australia. AirAsia Philippines also anticipates adding four more domestic destinations and increasing its total number of routes served to 18.
“AirAsia Philippines joins the entire aviation community in hoping and planning for a stronger 2022 as it believes that domestic tourism will be one of the major pillars of economic recovery post-pandemic,” the airline said in its press statement.
The carrier has witnessed an increase in travel demand with bookings for travel 1 to 3 months in advance. AirAsia Philippines has also seen a growth in its domestic market share, climbing 3.5% in 2021.
“AirAsia Philippines is highly optimistic that with improved synergies between the national and local governments, and the intensified vaccination program of the country, more Filipinos will be enticed to travel again,” read the airline’s press statement.
