Emirates to redeploy Airbus A380 jet on Glasgow-Dubai route

Fans of the Airbus A380 will soon be able to spot the popular jumbo jet in the sky above Glasgow, Scotland as Emirates is reportedly preparing to redeploy the widebody aircraft for passenger flights between the Scottish city and Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Glasgow International Airport (GLA) announced the news in a Twitter post on February 12, 2022, stating that Emirates will be reintroducing its A380 jumbo jet on a route connecting Dubai International Airport (DXB) and GLA.

Emirates is yet to confirm the information.

The airline currently operates a daily, eight-hour-long service from DXB to GLA via its Boeing 777-300ER planes.

The daily A380 service was first introduced on April 16, 2019. This was the first time the popular double-decker aircraft operated a flight to Scotland on a scheduled basis. At the time, the larger capacity Airbus A380 jet replaced Emirate’s twice-daily Boeing 777 service between the two cities.

As of February 14, 2022, Emirates has a total of Airbus A380-800s in its fleet, according to data from Planespotters.com. 59 are marked as temporarily parked. The airline also operates 124 Boeing 777-300ER jets, with two in storage.
