Ukrainian Armed Forces say they have shot down five Russian aircraft and a helicopter.

“According to the Joint Forces Command, 5 planes and a helicopter of the aggressors were shot down in the area of the OS [joint forces operations – AeroTime] today,” the account of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense tweeted.

Shortly before that, the same account announced that a Russian Sukhoi Su-24 strike aircraft has been shot down according to preliminary information.

Following the announcement, Russian military issued a statement saying the Ukrainian claims “do not correspond with reality.” According to the statement, the Ukrainian air defenses were “suppressed,” and the Russian military did not encounter any resistance.

In an earlier statement the Russian Defense Ministry said that it used precision weaponry to completely suppress Ukrainian air defenses.

“Military infrastructure, air defense facilities, military airfields, and aviation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are being disabled with high-precision weapons,” the Russian defense ministry statement said, quoted by the Russian state news agency TASS.
