AirBaltic is leaving the Russian market, the carrier’s chief executive has announced.  

The Latvian carrier had previously “suspended” flights to and from Russia until the end of May 2022 due to increased risks and airspace restrictions after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. 

But now the airline is going a step further and canceling all future flights.   

“We at @airBaltic made a decision to leave the Russian market. Following the suspension of flights earlier, we have now cancelled all future flights to and from Russian destinations,” airBaltic chief executive Martin Gauss said in a post on Twitter.  

Russia banned carriers from 36 countries, including Latvia, from entering its airspace on February 28, 2022. The ban came after a wave of countries announced airspace bans on Russia-owned aircraft and airlines in response to the war in Ukraine.
