The Boeing 747 was one of the most ambitious projects ever undertaken by American aerospace manufacturer, Boeing.  

Since its entry into service in the early 1970s, the Boeing 747 was the first widebody to define long-haul travel and has been in operation for almost half a century. However, the Boeing 747 was not the only widebody aircraft in the market during the 70s.
