DHL Boeing 757 freighter tail breaks off after skidding off runway
A DHL Aero Expreso Boeing 757 freighter has been involved in a dramatic landing accident at San Jose Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO), Costa Rica on April 7, 2022. Images show the plane with its tail broken off after the emergency landing.
"We can confirm that a DHL de Guatemala SA B757-200F flight JOS2716 sustained damage upon landing at Juan Santamaria airport in Costa Rica," a DHL spokesperson told AeroTime in an emailed statement.
The Boeing 757-200F, registered as HP-2010DAE, was conducting flight D07216 from SJO airport to Guatemala City (GUA), but approximately 10 minutes into the flight, the pilots reportedly requested an emergency landing, according to media reports.
Shortly after the accident, footage appeared on social media showing how the aircraft veered off to the right into taxiway and slipped down an embankment just after touchdown.

No injuries among the crew were reported.
"We are pleased to report that the crew were physically unharmed in the incident. One crew member underwent medical checks as a precaution," DHL added. "DHL’s incident response team has been activated and an investigation will be conducted with the relevant authorities to determine what happened."
