Vancouver airport experiences long queues and delays due to staffing shortage

Travelers flying out of Vancouver International Airport (YVR) were advised to arrive at least three hours prior to their scheduled flights. 

The Canadian airport is experiencing staffing shortage, resulting in long queues and delays in processing passengers through security screening.

YVR posted an update on their website and was also transparent about what is causing the delay.

“(The) Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA), which is the federal crown corporation responsible for all passenger security screening, is experiencing ongoing staffing shortages, which is contributing to long lines and lengthy delays in processing passengers through security screening at YVR,” the airport said in a statement

To help minimize delays, the airport advised passengers to prepare before heading to YVR by arriving early, “at least two hours ahead of domestic flights and at least three hours for U.S. and international.”

The airport recommended preparing for passenger screening: “For those with carry-on luggage, ensure liquids, gels and aerosols are in containers that are under 100 milliliters and are packaged into one transparent, closed and resealable plastic bag with a capacity of no more than one liter.” YVR also reminded that masks were still required in the terminals and on board flights.
