It’s always nice to land at the airport that you bought a ticket for. But if you’re flying to London Gatwick (LGW) over the next few weeks, you may be surprised to find a sign proclaiming “Welcome to Luton” as your plane comes in to land.
The words are laid out in giant white tarpaulin letters on a field near the busy London airport and have prompted confusion on social media, but also appreciation for the humorous stunt. LGW is about a 70-mile (112 kilometer) drive from London Luton (LTN).
The stunt has been claimed by 27-year-old comedian and YouTuber Max Fosh, who describes his video work as “silly little movies”.

In an interview with the BBC, Fosh apologized if anyone was too panicked by the greeting.
“It’s my job to make videos and my videos are all about doing silly things, to put a smile on people’s faces but just to be silly, I’m glad this stunt has gone down well,” he told the BBC.
Fosh said the stunt has cost him about £4000 ($5,034) and he has permission from the owners of the field to leave the letters there for six weeks.
“If you’re flying into Gatwick, have a look out your left window [and] you should see it about 90 seconds before landing,” he recommends.
