Airlines at Paris’ Charles de Gaulle airport (CDG) have canceled a quarter of their flights on June 9, 2022 after some airport staff announced a strike.
France’s CGT Trade Union said that airport workers in both CDG and Orly are demanding higher pay and better working conditions amidst rising inflation, COVID-19 working conditions, and the surge in passenger numbers at airports.
In a statement seen by Reuters, the union said that it is demanding a “300 Euro ($321) rise for all”.
The country’s flag carrier Air France announced on its website that the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) has requested airlines to reduce their flight operations to and from CDG between 07:00 to 14:00 local time on June 9, 2022.

CDG’s airport operator, Groupe ADP, has advised travelers to check their flight status with their airlines and to arrive at the airport at least 3 hours prior to departure for international flights, and 2 hours prior for domestic flights.
European network manager Eurocontrol warned of moderate to high delays at CDG due to the industrial action.
This strike comes as airports and airlines mostly in Europe and North America struggle with staff shortages during the expected busy travel period over the summer.
