A Frontier Airlines flight in the United States had to make a diversion and swift landing after a passenger carrying a box cutter reportedly threatened other travelers.

The drama occurred on the evening of November 11, 2022, onboard Frontier Airlines flight 1761 from Cincinnati (CVG) to Tampa (TPA). Passenger Lillian Hoffman told NBC News that a fellow passenger informed her that the male passenger had a knife and was threatening to stab people.

The male passenger was taken into custody after the aircraft landed in Atlanta (ATL). A second knife was found in his carry-on luggage, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) told CNN.

Ultra-low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines confirmed the incident to various media and said that there were no injuries to passengers or crew.

Such knives are banned in carry-on luggage. The TSA said it was investigating how the passenger was able to take the box cutters onboard.

“TSA has started an internal review of the incident by viewing CCTV, airport security checkpoint processes/operations and will continue to provide updates as they are available,” the TSA said in the statement to CNN.
