An Air Canada passenger was treated by emergency medical staff after he fell to the ground from a Boeing 777-300ER after opening the cabin door.
According to CityNews Toronto, the passenger entered the Boeing 777 jet normally at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) but rather than take his seat, he proceeded to the opposite end of the aircraft and opened the door.
The Air Canada flight was due to takeoff for Dubai on January 8, 2024, at 9:35 pm local time but after the passenger fell onto the tarmac the flight was significantly delayed.
“The passenger sustained injuries falling to the tarmac with emergency services and the authorities attending,” an Air Canada spokesperson told the Toronto news publication.
The airline was unable to confirm the extent of the passenger’s injuries from the fall or if he was taken to hospital for further medical attention.
There were 319 passengers due to fly out from YYZ on the Boeing 777, but they were subsequently delayed by six hours and took off in the early hours of January 9, 2024.
According to Boeing, the 777-300ER is 18.6 meters in height and the aircraft door is around six meters off the ground.
The Air Canada, registered C-FIUV, jet is 15 years old and joined the carrier’s fleet in 2008.
