American Airlines has announced that it will be Brisbane-bound later in 2024. The carrier will commence services between its main hub at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Brisbane (BNE) on the east coast of Australia as of October 2024. The announcement is one element of several changes coming to its route network throughout 2024, which also include new services to destinations in Brazil, Hawaii, and Mexico.
The carrier’s new route will be the first time Dallas and Brisbane have been connected by a non-stop service. The new flights will enable one-stop connections through Dallas to Brisbane from more than 100 destinations across the US which, according to the airline, currently require at least two stops.
When American’s seasonal service begins in October 2024, just in time for summer in the southern hemisphere, it will be the longest nonstop flight in the airline’s entire route network. According to GCMap.com, the great circle distance between the two cities is 8,303 miles (13,285km). The route will be flown by the airline’s Boeing 787-9 aircraft, of which the carrier currently operates 22 within its fleet.
Onboard the new service, passengers will have the choice of flying in one of the aircraft’s newly redesigned Flagship Suite (first class) seats, or else in the premium economy and economy class cabins.
In addition to the new direct route to Brisbane, the carrier’s OneWorld collaboration with Qantas will offer a comprehensive Pan-Pacific network connecting North America with destinations across both Australia and New Zealand. By the end of 2024, the partnership will offer services from Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), New York (JFK), and Vancouver, Canada (YVR), to four major gateways in Australia and New Zealand: Auckland (AKL), Brisbane (BNE), Melbourne (MEL), and Sydney (SYD).
As part of the American–Qantas partnership, customers will be able to connect to more than 200 destinations across the US, and nearly 70 destinations across Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific. This is more than any other airline partnership worldwide.

American Airlines is also expanding its international network elsewhere during 2024. The company has announced that additional services will be starting up to Veracruz, Mexico (VER), in June 2024, and flights to Rio de Janeiro (GIG) and Kona, Hawaii (KOA) for the 2024 northern winter.
From October. 27, 2024, American will launch services between Dallas and Rio de Janeiro, joining services already operated from Miami (MIA) and New York (JFK). American will offer up to four daily flights from the US for customers to visit Rio. By doing so, it will offer more flights to the Brazilian city from the US than all other airlines combined.
American Airlines also announced recently that it will be starting a direct flight between New York JFK and Tokyo Haneda (HND) sometime in 2024. When it begins, the new route will be the fourth daily service American Airlines operates to Haneda from the United States, the others being its daily flight from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and its twice-daily from Los Angeles (LAX).
It will also add 200,000 round-trip seats of capacity between the US and Japan.
