An American tourist who evaded his cab fare to the airport was arrested for physically assaulting a security personnel at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL).

The suspect, identified as Tyrone Bennet, an American, arrived at MNL airport on September 14, 2023.

It is alleged that Bennet did not pay his cab fare to the airport, which prompted the cab driver to chase him. Bennet then dodged past security checks at the airport entrance, where airport security attempted to stop him.

Bennet was captured on video throwing punches at one of the uniformed airport security staff.

According to local media, Bennet was charged with violation of the Philippine Revised Penal Code’s Article 151 for resistance and disobedience to a person in authority; Article 155 for alarm and scandal; Article 148 for direct assault and Article 263 for physical injuries.

It was later found that Bennet did not hold a departing ticket for that day.

The US Embassy was informed of the incident, and Bennet is now detained at the Police Intelligence and Investigation Division (PIID) Office at the Airport Police Department headquarters.
