Brussels Airlines has expanded its all-Airbus fleet with the delivery of the carrier’s first of five new A320neo aircraft.

It is the first time that the Belgium national airline and member of the Lufthansa Group has purchased an aircraft from the A320neo family.

Details about the deal between the airline and Airbus were announced on November 1, 2023, in a joint statement.

The acquisition of the five new A320neo aircraft is part of Brussels Airlines’ fleet renewal strategy to operate efficient aircraft to meet sustainability targets.

According to Airbus, the A320neo uses the latest technologies, including new-generation CFM International LEAP-1A engines for more efficiency and sharklets for improved aerodynamics, which together reduce fuel burn and CO2 emissions by at least 20%.

The Brussels Airlines A320neos are equipped with the Airbus Airspace cabin and features a single class layout with 180 seats.

The new A320neo will join Brussels Airlines’ all-Airbus fleet of 43 aircraft, including 34 A320 family aircraft and nine A330-300s.

“Perfectly sized for the European market, the new aircraft will enter into service on the carrier’s short- to medium-haul network,” Airbus said in the statement.

With over 9,700 orders from more than 130 customers worldwide, aircraft from the A320 family are the world’s most popular.
