A FedEx Boeing B757 aircraft with landing gear failure crash landed, then skidded off the end of a runway late in the evening on October 4, 2023, at Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport (CHA) in Tennessee.

The Chattanooga Fire Department received a call at 23:04 local time  regarding a FedEx B757 on its final approach with a landing gear failure.

Reports indicate that after takeoff, the aircraft pilots realized that the landing gear was malfunctioning and made the emergency call.

Upon receiving the call, the fire department, Chattanooga Police Department, and Hamilton County Emergency Services were deployed at the airport.

The fire department said that the aircraft circled before making its final descent, where it “crash landed” and skidded off the end of the runway.

The landing was captured on video by the Hamilton County Emergency Services and uploaded on social media.

All three people onboard were safe and accounted for.

The Chattanooga Fire Department praised the aircraft’s pilot and airport personnel, adding that there was no fire, only smoke from the aircraft engines.

“FedEx Express Flight 1376 from Chattanooga to Memphis experienced an issue just after takeoff on Wednesday evening. Our crew is safe and any additional questions should be referred to the NTSB,” FedEx said in a statement sent to various US media outlets.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident.
