Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) is facing flight delays and diversions due to severe thunderstorms and wet weather which continues to batter Sydney and New South Wales’ south coast.

In a tweet posted on February 9, 2023, Sydney Airport reminded passengers to check their flight status with respective airlines due to storms within the airport’s vicinity.

Local media 9news reported that no Virgin Australia flights were able to depart between 12:30 and 16:00 local time, resulting in cancellations and delays.

While other affected flights have not yet been announced, one flight passenger took to Twitter to voice her frustration. Addressing Sydney Airport, the passenger said that her flight, AI 302 (Air India, Delhi to Sydney), had already landed for an hour but had yet to disembark.

Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that Sydney’s wet weather could continue until Friday afternoon. It also stated that while the bad weather could clear by February 11, 2023, showers could return the following day.
