Emergency crews were called at Kahului Airport (OGG) in Maui, Hawaii when a baggage tugger vehicle collided with an aircraft, resulting in one person injured.

The accident occurred in the early morning of November 30, 2023, when a Hawaiian Airlines Boeing 717 aircraft registered N494HA was pushing back from Gate 17 and collided with a baggage tugger.

Kahului Airport firefighters and an American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance responded to the scene.

The baggage tugger operator, a Hawaiian Airlines employee, was taken to Maui Memorial Hospital.

The Hawaiian Airlines aircraft was about to operate flight HA 105 to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) in Honolulu, which was eventually canceled. Passengers on the flight were deplaned and accommodated on other flights to HNL.

Though it has been reported that the baggage operator was in a stable condition, the extent of his injuries are not yet known.

“Our employee was transported by ambulance to a hospital. We thank airport first responders and medical personnel for their immediate assistance,” a Hawaiian Airlines spokesperson told the Beat of Hawaii.

The Hawaii Department of Transportation is investigating the accident.
