The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will expand its self-service trials to 25 more US airports across the country in time for the peak summer travel period.

The TSA launched the self-service option in 2020 during the early days of the pandemic where its ‘touchless’ technology was able to match a live photo with a passenger’s passport or ID.

The pilot testing airport in 2020 was Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), and due to it working well, the TSA plans to roll out the same self-service option at the following airports.

  • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL)
  • Nashville International Airport (BNA)
  • Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI)
  • The Eastern Iowa Airport (CID)
  • John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH)

“Opt-in at select airports to participate in the TSA PreCheck Touch less Identity Solution program during check-in with participating airlines. Store your participation preference, TSA PreCheck KTN and Passport Number in the airlines mobile app. By opting in, your identity can be verified without presenting a physical ID at the bag drop, the security checkpoint, and at the boarding gate.” TSA said on its website.
