A teenager was caught hiding in the landing gear of an Airbus at Mexico City International Airport (MEX) after he jumped over the perimeter fence and was caught on camera running across the tarmac.

The authorities at the airport, known locally as Aeropuerto Internacional Benito Juárez, found the teenager and managed to persuade him to come out by offering him a fizzy drink.

It is understood that the Airbus, which is operated by Mexican low-cost airline Volaris, did not suffer any damage in the incident which occurred on September 3, 2023.

It is not clear whether there were passengers on board the Airbus at the time of the incident.

The airport authorities indicated that the teenager may have been under the influence of a controlled substance when he was apprehended.

According to officials the teenager was found inside the aircraft in front of runway 5 at around 1.30 pm. Navy personnel and members of a private security team were some of the first people on the scene.

The teenager is understood to have been placed under the care of authorities for putting his life and passengers at risk.

“Thanks to the timely response of the aforementioned authorities and the airline itself, an event of greater implications could be prevented,” the airport said in a statement.
